AI Visibility for Financial Institutions

AI visibility is how discoverable and accurately represented your institution is inside AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Members and customers increasingly ask AI before they search Google. AI visibility determines whether your bank, credit union, or fintech gets found, understood, and recommended when they do.

Why famous is not the same as visible

The biggest finding from the audit work: brand fame and AI visibility have decoupled. Household-name institutions score in the failing range because their sites are unreadable to machines, while small credit unions with clean, structured sites outscore them. I wrote up what that looks like in practice in Famous and Invisible.

What the data says

  • 23% of financial institution sites score below 50 on AI discoverability. Effectively invisible.
  • Only 16% pass high-reliability audit standards.
  • The average overall score is 60 out of 100.

Those numbers come from 420 audits of 181 financial institution websites. The full breakdown, updated as the dataset grows, lives on the benchmarks page.

The five things AI needs from your site

  1. Machine legibility. Your content has to be readable without JavaScript, PDFs, or guesswork.
  2. Entity consistency. One name, one story, everywhere the machines look.
  3. Evidence and specificity. Dated numbers, not adjectives.
  4. Third-party reinforcement. Independent sources that describe you accurately.
  5. A measurement habit. You cannot manage what you never ask about.

Naming them is easy. Doing them in the right order, against your specific gaps, is the actual work.

The full playbook

I do not publish the complete playbook, because the complete playbook is what I do for clients. If you want the audit, the prioritized fixes, and the quarterly measurement loop run against your actual site, that is Atlas Instinct. If you want to talk first: kevin@kevinfarley.org.
